I am thankful that I live fairly close to where I work. I am roughly 5 miles from work which equals between a 12-15 minute drive depending on traffic. This is helpful in determining what time I get up each day but what makes me so thankful for the geographic closeness is that it allows me to go home for lunch.
I don’t go home everyday; some days there are errands to run and some days I just stay at work and eat at my desk but at least once if not twice a week I go home and it is wonderful. With the drive I end up with roughly 35-40 minutes at home and you’d be surprised what you can get done in that amount of time. I’ve taken naps, showered, done laundry, done dishes, vacuumed, packed gym bags, eaten, read books, done homework, had meltdowns, paid bills, watched hours of House Hunters and sometimes just sat quietly in the silence.
I usually go home to pick up the house, I find it very disheartening to come home at the end of a long day and have dirty dishes in the sink or piles of clean laundry to be cleaned. So I have found that by running home at lunch I have free run of the place and can do what needs to be done at my own pace in my own way.
I also love walking into the house during a busy day and have a chance to decompress before heading back to endless emails and phone calls.
There have been several days when I have felt at the end of my rope by noon and just thirty minutes at home gives me the chance to pull myself together and go back to work ready to face the rest of the day. I'm thankful to have that luxury and I enjoy it every chance I get!
